UNO Generation II

UNO Shave Company is in the final stages for its new version of the UNO razor, with a lot of very exciting milestones soon to be achieved.

At the outset, Paul and I have stated that we wanted to not only create a shaving razor and company that possessed the gumption (nutsack) and credibility to challenge-affront the corporate razor giants on not just the quality of shaving outcome, cost, comfort during use, and also the illegitimacy of their silly-ass blade count - but we also endeavored to throw down the gauntlet on environmental stewardship as well. And that is what we have done.

Where we are at now, is in the final designing phases of our Generation II handle and cartridge.

What we can tell you at this point:

  • The handle will still be made from 100% recyclable Aluminum - but it will be made with an improved shape for all people, it will be slightly heavier, and with more texturing for improved grip under any shaving conditions; and it will be manufactured as one, homogeneous piece. It will still be anodized for durability, and will be fully compatible with all prior UNO cartridges.

  • The future cartridges (and their protective cap) will be made from a bio-plastic material. This is probably the most exciting part of the Generation II rollout, and has also been the most difficult to achieve. If you've read any prior posts you'd have seen way back in January of 2021 that this has always been our goal, and we have been working on this ultimate goal since before we even launched. And the Gen II cartridges will, of course, be compatible with all original UNO razor handles.

The Best Single Blade Razor

SNEAK PEEK. Incredible scalloped “fish scale” texture. Fantastic balance. Perfect weight. You’re going to love this.

For several years now, we have been experimenting with all sorts of bio-plastics for the cartridge to find the right fit. The problems have been varied. Injection mold temperatures, pressures, properties of pliability/ rigidity, abrasion properties of various bio-polymers, coloration challenges... you name it. We want it to be “on brand,” feel great, look great, and perform as good as the Generation I cartridge has in providing a smooth, reliable and affordable shave. And we need this to retain the renown UNO blade's high-quality and longevity still being able to absolutely hammer-fist both the corporate multi-blade options, and all of the geek “inspector gadget” safety razor options out there on both price, comfort and 3X the blade longevity - as has been reported by all (not some, not most) of UNO customers we've polled. We also want it to be compostable/ biodegradable.

And we're just about there. But, we have recently exhausted our last supplies of the original UNO handles, and felt it unwise to manufacture more in any scale economies that makes it worthwhile (translation: thousands upon thousands of handles), when we're on the precipice of total replacement of the former technology with new technology. So, that's where we are today.

We will be rolling out the handles first, to get everyone supplied with UNO shaving comfort ASAP, to be followed in the future by the bio-plastic cartridges as a option. We have a ton of the traditional plastic cartridges remaining, and there will be no disruption in the supply of these to our current customers.

Stay smooth, and be on the lookout for the Generation II UNO razor and cartridges soon!
